Two months before the opening of the SIHH in Geneva in 2018, Cartier is the first to launch the new Rotonde de Cartier mysterious day and night display watch. The brand uses the watch to present two historic complications: the mysterious movement and the day and night display. These two complex functions are an important part of Cartier’s watchmaking heritage, dating back to 1912. On the one hand, the mysterious movement is designed and manufactured for the Model A mysterious clock; on the other hand, the day and night display movement is an integral part of the planetary clock.
At the International Haute Horlogerie Salon in 2018, Cartier introduced these two complex functions into the world of watchmaking for the first time. In the upper part of the dial, the sun (hand) is driven by the mysterious movement and moves from left to right until it is handed over to the moon (hand). The sun (pointer) and moon (pointer) alternately indicate day and night time. On the lower half of the dial, the minute information is indicated by a retrograde hand. Radial guilloché and brushed satin finishes further emphasize the ethereal visual reading effect.
The case is made of 18K rose gold and has a diameter of 40 mm. It is equipped with Cartier’s homemade 9982 MC hand-wound movement. This movement is assembled from 174 parts. The number of gems is 26. It can provide a 48-hour power reserve when full. Comes with a grey alligator leather strap and 18K rose gold folding clasp. Turn the watch to appreciate the fine retouching of the movement and the day and night display on the case back. Cartier Rotonde de Cartier mysterious day and night display rose gold watch is not limited to release, and also available in 18K white gold. It is reported that the rose gold model sells for $ 63,000.
